Rethymno Segway tour review

My verdict: the best-reviewed tour in Rethymno by a clear margin, and the one I send people to when they want three hours of the town without three hours of walking. Safety training and a supervised test drive come before the tour and are extra time on top, so nobody sets off wobbling. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included. The catch is the restrictions: there is a weight ceiling and a weight floor, and children under six are not permitted. The Fortezza appears as a photo stop and a scenic drive, not as a visit inside.
What three hours buys
You meet at Sofokli Venizelou 4, do the training, then ride: a viewpoint first, the Neratze Mosque and its minaret, the Fortezza of Rethymno for photographs and a scenic drive, then the old town with guided commentary and free time, then back to the start. Three hours is the longest of the town tours and the machine removes the fatigue, which is why it works in summer when a two-hour walk does not.
What it does not do is take you inside the walls. The Fortezza is a photo stop here. If you want the interior on the same trip, budget about €5 and an extra 1.5 to 2 hours another day, or book the guided fortress tour instead and get the ticket with it.
What forty-two reviewers say
This is the only Rethymno-based tour with a sample worth calling a sample, and 4.9 across 42 ratings is a strong number. The reviews name individual guides and praise the route rather than the novelty:
“We had a wonderful Segway tour through Rethymno and would definitely recommend it. The route was beautiful and varied.”
Ralf, Germany — March 2026
“Very nice guide. Yannis told us a lot about the Crete and Greek culture.”
Björn, Germany — October 2025
“Outstanding experience. Our guide Theo was so lovely and amazing. The venue was easy to find and the tour wonderful.”
Carlton, United Kingdom — June 2024
The restrictions, which are the real problem
Read these before you pay, because they are the reason people book the wrong tour. Riders must weigh at least 35 to 40 kg and no more than 117 kg. Children under six are not permitted. The tour is not suitable for pregnant women. A family with a small child cannot all go, and that is not something you want to discover at Sofokli Venizelou 4 with the group waiting. The old town tours page sets these limits against the walking and e-bike alternatives.
What works
- The highest rating and the largest review count of any Rethymno tour
- Safety training and a supervised test drive before the tour, as extra time
- Hotel pickup and drop-off, so no meeting-point confusion
- Three hours without three hours of walking, which matters in July
Worth knowing
- The most expensive of the town tours
- Weight limits of 35–40 kg minimum and 117 kg maximum
- Not permitted under six years old, and not suitable for pregnant women
- The Fortezza is a photo stop, not an interior visit, and entry is not included
Usually included
- Live guide in English and Greek
- Safety training and supervised test drive
- Helmets
- Hotel pickup and drop-off
Not included
- Fortezza admission
- Food
- Drinks
- Gratuities
Ask for a morning departure in July and August. Standing still on a Segway in the afternoon sun is hotter than walking, because you generate no breeze of your own.
Who should book it
Families with teenagers, couples who want the town covered in one go, and anyone who has already decided the fortress interior is a separate errand. If €65 is more than you want to spend, the e-bike tour covers similar ground for less and has no weight ceiling. If you want to stop and look rather than ride, the walking tour is slower on purpose.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Rethymno Segway tour worth the price?
It is the most expensive town tour and the best rated, at 4.9 from 42 reviews, which is the only sample on this site large enough to trust. Three hours, hotel pickup and training are included. Compare it against the cheaper options on the old town tours page.
What are the weight and age limits?
Riders must be at least 35 to 40 kg and no more than 117 kg, and children under six are not permitted. The tour is also not suitable for pregnant women. A family that cannot all ride should look at the walking tour instead.
Does the Segway tour go inside the Fortezza?
No. The Fortezza is a photo stop and a scenic drive on the route, and admission is not included. Going inside is a separate ticket of about €5, described on the entrance fee page.
Do I need experience to ride a Segway?
No. Safety training and a supervised test drive happen before the tour starts and are counted as extra time on top of the three hours, so the riding time is not eaten by the lesson.
